Dog and Cat Behavior for Vet Techs and Vet Assistants- 12 week virtual course

$500 self guided with access for 1 year includes 4 virtual check-ins

  • A comprehensive course on dog and cat body language and learning. Participants will learn proper greeting methods, cooperative care protocols, and stress reduction techniques for dogs and cats in the veterinary setting. This course will use Canine and Feline Behavior by Shaw and Martin for reading and quizzes. This course has been derived for public use from the course I teach for Front Range Community College’s Veterinary Technician and Assistant programs (VET1009 Applied Small Animal Behavior.) Optional texts are decoding your dog, Decoding your Cat, and Cooperative Care

Shy cats in shelters- 90 minute webinar 

$130/group; virtual instruction 

$200/group; in person instruction (up to 15 mi add $5 per mile over)

– Participants will gain insight into subtle feline body language that signals discomfort. They will learn how to approach shy cats so as to not exacerbate aggressive behavior and/or increase overall stress in the shelter environment. Participants will learn how to effectively use classical and operant conditioning to decrease feline stress with handling and increase their confidence with people to promote faster adoption rates.

Cat Behavior Modification in Shelters- 6 week course 

$300/group; virtual instruction

$575/group; hybrid instruction including three-in person classes at your shelter (up to 15 mi add $5 per mile over, up to 10 students per group for grading purposes)

  • A comprehensive course on feline body language and learning. Participants will learn proper greeting methods, cooperative care protocols, and stress reduction techniques for cats in a shelter environment. The text for this course is The Trainable Cat, optional texts are Decoding Your Cat and Cooperative Care.
